Trojans open 2017 John Wall Holiday Tournament with win over Trinity Christian

Garner downs Trinity Christian 81-67 to open the 2017 John Wall Holiday Invitational. KD Burt pumps in 20 with Marque Maultsby 19 points for Coach Gray’s Trojans making their 22nd appearance in the nation’s oldest high school Tournament at Broughton Holiday Gym. Trayvon Ferrell & Demetric Horton 15 points each for the 8-1 good guys. Maultsby scores the final 12 Garner points in decisive 3rd quarter to fuel 14-4 Trojan run over PhenomHoops 15th ranked team (they failed to rank Garner in their opening poll but added them at 11th after a 5th win over ranked opponent) to put Garner up 62-52 after 3rd. The Trojans survive another subpar night from the FT line with just 12-of-23 but force 26 Crusader turnovers to offset, with 8 steals (led by Horton and Maultsby with 3 steals each.) Garner 50% shooting from the floor for the game while TC shoots 49%. Burt tally brings him to just 5 points short of 1,000 for his career. The #3-ranked in the area Trojans have 4 double-digit scorers for the 7th time this season. The Trojans advance to face Christ School Thursday 5:15PM

Garner destroys the Falcons 68-44 as they open defense of their title at the annual event. Coach Bloms squad has 4-year win streak at the Tournament with 3 consecutive titles. They advance to semifinal action Thursday 5:30PM vs Millbrook improving to 8-1 this season.
