Trojans sweep at Fayetteville 71st

The top-ranked Trojan varsity blasts Fayetteville 71st 87-47 to complete the sweep at the Falcons. JV Trojans claim 81-42 thrashing and Freshman squad nips 71st 49-41. Coach Eddie Gray's 2-0 Trojans shoot a blistering 68% with several highlight reel dunks to put away 71st. Demetric Horton & Trayvon Ferrell adds 18 each, KD Burt 15, Jaren Ellerbee 15 &  Donovan Evans 11 as the defending conference champs have four double-digit scorers for the second consecutive night. But the bench sees plenty of playing time as everyone plays and 9 score. Evans hits from behind the arc to complete 24-15 first quarter and the road team pulls away from that point. The Trojans force 17 Falcon turnovers and convert most into fastbreak dunks and layups. Senior KD Burt moves into 14th all-time in Garner history with 895 points, passing Gavin Wilson ('12) and 5th all-time in varsity games played with 89.

JV destroys the Falcons
Garner JV opens fast as well, racing to 19-11 first quarter margin and put the game out of doubt with 21-point 2nd quarter en route to 40-24 lead at the break. Christian Little paces the good guys with 13, AJ Daniels scores 11 and David Cass 10 off the bench hitting 4-of-5 shots including two from the arc. Daveon Dunn has 9 points, 6 assists, 6 steals in very limited play as the game reaches blowout status early. The patented Trojan defense is relentless forcing 71st to 22 turnovers and just 44% shooting from the floor. Garner converts the takeaways into 28 fastbreak points and easy buckets. Garner records 11 steals with Dunn causing six. Coach Bloms squad improves to 2-1

Freshman edge 71st
A tight game throughout, Julius Peacock free throws puts Garner up with 36 seconds left and Ty Barron dish to Josiah Pender lets the Freshman Trojans pull away 49-44 at Fayetteville. Pender leads Garner with 13, Barron has 11 and Peacock & Qi Smith 10 points each. Garner converts 17-of-26 from the line to to negate 40% from the floor, including just 2-of-12 from the arc. Barron leads all players with 9 rebounds and the 26-22 rebound margin minimized Freshman Falcon second chances.
