Trojans stay unbeaten in SWAC with shutout of Apex

Coach Thurman Leach picks up his 50th career head coaching win in Garner 48-0 thrashing of Apex. The unranked Trojans improve to 4-0 in the SWAC in their 5th straight win. Nolan McLean hits Justin Lewis for two touchdowns, followed by Jaydin Dixon 31-yard fumble return for score and Dixon halfback pass to Ahkee Vaughn for 44-yard TD with just 42 seconds left in the half for 28-0 score at the break. During the evening festivities, Garner recognized their 2018 Hall of Fame Class and retired the jersey of Trojan Coach Morgan Barbour Jones' ('08) #4 softball uniform and Coach Leach & senior Marcus Davis recognized for selection to the 2018 NC Shrine Bowl. McLean 1-yard dive for score, Maki Reed-Jones 13 yard TD run & Josh Wilson 33-yard TD run at 10:55 left finishes off the Cougars in the Trojans first shutout of the season. McLean hits 9 straight passes on the night before concluding his night in the 3rd quarter. Conversely, the Trojan defense holds the Cougars to just two completions and 9 consecutive incompletions at one stretch. The win sets up conference championship showdown at Middle Creek next Friday night.

NOTE: McLean 1904 career total offense passes Braxton Brokenborough ('16) for 22nd place in Garner history total yardage and 7th on passing yardage with 1,791; Garner wins their 16th straight conference game and 18th consecutive October game; Coach Leach conference record improves to 23-3, Garner 166-9 in conference play since 1985
