Trojans dominate SE Raleigh in home opener

Garner uses their home opener for dominating 47-14 non-conference win over SE Raleigh. Trojan offense, directed by Nolan McLean rolls up 480 yards of offense, despite 143 yards of penalties while the defense holds the Bulldogs to -3 yards passing in the second half shutout. Marcus Davis 8-yard TD run at 2:41 of the 1st after Marque Maultsby takeaway & Angel Anorve 25-yard FG puts Garner up 10-7. McLean connects with Jon-Anthony Johnson 73-yard score and dives for 1-yard rushing TD, part of his 62 yards for the evening. Ahkee Vaughn 2pt run gives the good guys 18-7 lead they would not relinquish. Davis finishes off the Bulldog QB in the end zone for safety & McLean 1-yard TD off the ensuing possession for the 27-14 halftime lead. The 2nd half in steady rain at S.Garner Field is messy and flag-filled shutout until Prestige Bellamy 27-yard run ignites the Blue Crew. Bellamy tacks on 2-yard dive as the 3rd quarter ends for 40-14 margin. Donovan Evans completes the scoring with a stellar 24-yard sweep for Garner’s 19th win in 22 meetings with their crosstown rival.
